Sorry I have been a little quiet these last few days. Tired, contemplative, and busy. Work always saps more energy out of me then it should be allowed to and lately it has been a struggle. As for contemplative, I have a lot of projects on the go that work keeps tripping me up on. I am taking vacation next week and looking forward to fixing some things around the house that have been bugging me for too long. Also, I have art and writing ideas that are having knock down/drag out battles in my head. All of them want done. My goal over vacation is to finally get “Linear Thinkers” put to bed and start on the third in my “It’s All Connected” series, as well as, prep on a project that ties in with my Sapling God post. I need to chase down where I put the drawings of the arctic fox and polar bear so I can scan them in too. As I said, a lot going on and I am itching to get to work.
Finally, I am also busy trying to fix a lot of stuff around the house with as little or no money as possible. Of course you know what that means, a lot of free labor from yours truly. I made the mistake of not digging under the grass in a section that I wanted to fill with rocks and only laying the weed cover over the grass. Well, you can guess how that worked out. Now I need to salvage three or four loads of stone out of the bed and do it correctly. Did I mention that me and heat do not mix well, no pool and crappy air conditioning. But I want this fixed. I am tired of having a weed infested back yard. Oh and there are so many more tasks but this is the one I want done this year. So hopefully, I will get a few of these things moving along better on my vacation. Wish me lots of luck and stay tuned for progress reports.
Still working away at the spaceship and it is coming along. Most of the hull is covered and I started putting more detail in place. Also, I colored in one of the engine squares a bit more, still need to play with it some.
“This week’s reward is a pencil drawing I did some time ago. The image is near a beach where a hooded wizard is in the midst of summoning a creature from another realm. What his reasons are, we do not know, but by the look of the creature, it can’t be good. LOL. I give you “The Calling”.”
Evening folks, I am in an odd mood this evening, restless yet contemplative. I need to create but am not ready to work on any particular project so I decide to revisit the poem I was working on about the vastness of space and the beauty therein. However, I did not really feel like wrestling with rhyme and verse, structure and tempo so I decided to just write it out. I give you:
A photon of light has entered my eye. An ancient photon has touched the receptors at the back of my eye and caused a series of electrical impulses that send information to my brain billions of years after the photon was first emitted. Billions of years spent crossing the vast gulfs of space, being bent around stars emitting their own photons of light, a path full of gravitational twists that cause the distant from one shore to another to be measured in years of light travel.
In my mind I churn through these facts, wondering at the sites this photon of light has seen on its long journey. Out there the star that gave birth to my photon has long since ceased to exist, nothing more than a nebulous cloud of expanding gases millions of miles across and yet too small for me to see without a telescope. What societies did my photon uncaringly bypass on its way to me? What alien mind might have pondered the same things I am?
The photon no longer exists outside of me just as someday the last reflected photon from me will cease to exist. Will I be lucky enough to reflect a photon back into the vastness of space so that some small part of me can see the wonders of our universe up close rather than as a voyeur? What a journey that would be.
I just wanted to let you know that I have changed the reward tiers on my Patreon page. The $1 per month tier is staying the same with PDF and Rich Text copies of my short stories every month but the next tier is now $3 per month instead of $5 per month to get the stories plus jpeg copies of my artwork and progression files of my digital images. As I said before, I also intend to add other content to the $3 per month tier as I learn how and the tier gets supported. So please consider becoming a patron and help me achieve my goal of becoming a working artist and writer.
Well, North America has made the move into summer and it is already hitting the high humidity that is a trademark of Pennsylvania (between 60 and 90 %). But it also means we are nearing the beginning of another month and time to tease the next story. July’s store appropriately takes place in a blasted, blistering landscape where a lone person strives to continue moving on a journey he no longer remembers. Worse, the devastated lands he crosses blame him for their plight. How do you rest when the pain of a stone can break your heart? What do you do to shut out the voices of regret and responsibility that never cease? Find out in next month’s short story “Stubborn”.
